about

Lindsay Vickery
detritus [2015] for bass clarinet, electric guitar, harp and electronics.

The digital score for detritus is arranged as a set of interconnecting pathways - a rhizome. The performers read notation that always commences and periodically restarts, from the same point in the score, but then begins to diverge for each player, leading to a refrain-like structure of exploration and return. The score also periodically transforms the appearance of the notation by obscuring it with elements of an overtly graphical background layer. During these transformed periods the performers are less restricted in their interpretation leading to a dialogue between precise reading and more interpretive improvised musical materials.
